Turkey

Turkey is a transcontinental country located at the crossroads of Southeast Europe and Western Asia. Bordered by the Black Sea to the north, the Aegean to the west and the Mediterranean to the south-west, it enjoys an important strategic location.

Ankara is the capital, while Istanbul is its largest city and a major cultural and economic center. The official language is Turkish. Turkey has a rich and diverse culture, mixing influences from its historical ties with the Byzantine and Ottoman empires, as well as its position between East and West. This is evident in its cuisine, music, arts and traditions.

The Republic of Turkey was founded in 1923 from the remains of the Ottoman Empire. It functions as a unitary presidential constitutional republic. Turkey has a mixed economy with a growing private sector, and it is considered an emerging market and a newly industrialized country. Its economy is diverse, with key sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, tourism and services.
