Drive along the Tizi n'Tichka pass, Morocco's and North Africa's highest road pass. Head towards Telouet shortly after crossing the pass. Visit the Glaoui kasbah, which controlled the caravan routes that brought products from Sub-Saharan Africa to Marrakech for five centuries. Return to the main road and descend to At Benhaddou. Visit the UNESCO World Heritage-listed old village with exceptional earthen architecture. In Ouarzazate, spend the night in a 3-star hotel.
Visit the Taourirt kasbah before continuing on to Agdz via the road that crosses the mountain range, passing through an impressively arid landscape reminiscent of the Tassili Mountains in Algeria's Hoggar region.
Explore Zagora in the morning, have free time for lunch in Zagora, and depart by car from Zagora around 2 PM on the old caravan route that connects Zagora and ALFAYJA via the Bani Mountains. Pass through the old southern Moroccan kasbah of Nesrat before arriving in Mhamid, the last village before the vast Saharan expanse. Mhamid is a camel market and a crossroads where caravans used to depart for Timbuktu. After driving on the regs and hamadas, you'll arrive at the sacred oasis of Oumlalag to refresh from the spring before continuing directly to Erg Lihoudi.
After receiving a welcome tea, take a short walk on the dunes to witness the spectacular sunset. Enjoy a meal under the stars and sleep in the bivouac, surrounded by a campfire and traditional songs.
After breakfast, you will begin your journey back to Marrakech, where you will arrive in the late afternoon. You will pass through the Draa Valley on your way. Since the Mansour Eddahbi dam was built, water has been flowing continuously, keeping this long oasis green all year while the surrounding mountains remain dry. In Zagora, spend the night in a 3-star hotel.
