Let us journey to the country of the blue desert people. Morocco's raw environment is revealed through lunar landscapes and pre-Saharan roads, immersing us in its hallucinogenic hues and memorable experiences.
We drive via the Tizi n'Tichka Pass, Morocco's and North Africa's highest mountain pass. This whole crossing of the High Atlas allows us to clearly differentiate between the two sides: the northern, still Mediterranean side, and the southern, already Saharan side. On the way down, we stop in At Benhaddou, a historic town with extraordinary earthen construction that has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. We continue our trek until we reach the settlement of Agdez, which marks the beginning of the Draa Valley.
Featuring six palm groves and lunar vistas along pre-Saharan pathways. Finally, we arrive at Zagora, a little village in the Saadian dynasty's ancestral territory. This is where we will spend the first night of our adventure. Dinner and sleeping in a Zagora bivouac.
We rejoin to the main road and travel east, passing via Erfoud and Rissani, the Alaouite dynasty's birthplace. Soon after, you'll receive your first view of the Merzouga dunes. Enjoy a sunset camel ride in the evening. Spend the night in an inn among the big dunes. You may even take a camel ride to the large dunes for an evening and overnight bivouac.
An early start allows you to enjoy the spectacular beauty of a desert sunrise. Before leaving for Erfoud and Tineghir, return to the inn for breakfast. Visit the Todra Gorges and wander through the oasis gardens, which are among the most beautiful in southern Morocco since they have water all year. Spend the night in Tineghir in a 3-star hotel.
Depart for Skoura after breakfast. Take a stroll around the palm grove, which is home to numerous lovely kasbahs. This is also to as the "Route of a Thousand Kasbahs." The remainder of the day will be spent returning to Marrakech, where you will arrive late at night.
