Overview

The Djebel Saghro is a mountain range south of the Atlas and the Dades that has a decidedly Saharan aspect, with landscapes that occasionally resemble the Tassili Mountains of the Hoggar. It is further away from Marrakech than the High Atlas, yet it is ideal for winter hiking, with the sun beaming as snow falls on Toubkal. From November until early April, hiking conditions are favorable throughout the range. With 5 to 6 hours of walking every day and pack mules to handle bags and equipment, this route is suitable for any physically active hiker.

In addition, we may be compelled to change our route owing to inclement weather. This happens infrequently, but when it does, decisions will be made with safety as the first priority.

Day 1: Marrakech

Arrival at the Menara Airport in Marrakech. Welcome and support are provided. Transfer to a downtown hotel. Dinner and an overnight stay at a downtown hotel.

Day 2: Marrakech-Ouarzazate-N'kob

After breakfast, take the Tizi n'Tichka route south, which allows for a complete crossing of the Atlas range, clearly separating its Mediterranean on the northern side and its Saharan on the southern side. Lunch is served in Ouarzazate. Arrive in N'kob, south of Djebel Saghro, in the late afternoon. Spend the night in the village.

Day 3: N'kob

Exit the N'kob palm forest and head towards the highlands, where the scenery suddenly turns parched and palm groves grow scarcer and smaller. Villages grow increasingly dispersed.

Day 4: N'kob

The entire day is spent in a mineral landscape, which is distinguished by its unique shapes and hues caused by the presence of numerous minerals. Only a few stunted trees try to live. The climate is mostly continental.

Day 5: N'kob

Today, you will reach the highest point of the week at little over 2000 meters, and in winter, you may meet some snow. This lies near the base of Mount Saghro, which has a height of 2592 meters. Immediately,

Day 6: N'kob, Dades, and Tagdilt

We eventually leave the highlands and make our way down to the Dades. The terrain grows more thickly inhabited, the flora becomes more lush, and the snow-capped peaks of the High Atlas can be seen in the distance. This is most likely the most lovely day of the week. The final night is spent at Tagdilt, just south of Boumalne du Dades, with a local host.

Day 7: Tagdilt - Ouarzazate - Marrakech

After breakfast, travel for Ouarzazate and then for Marrakech, arriving in the afternoon. Dinner and an overnight stay at a downtown hotel.

Day 8: Marrakech

Transfer to Marrakech Menara Airport after breakfast.
